The Caribbean official hurricane season is from 1st of June to end of November. However the Caribbean islands stretch over 2.754,000 sq. km (1,063,000 sq. miles) and the weather is not the same in the South as in the North. Barbados for instance in the South and further out in the Atlantic is safe and has not been hit by a hurricane over 50 years. Northern Islands like Antigua, St. Martin, US Virgin Islands, BVI and also the Bahamas etc. are not so lucky.
They are in the hurricane belt and severe storms here are frequent. The tropical storms start in West Africa and they grow in intensity as the air warms up the further they move into the Northern Caribbean region. That is why Barbados has the geographical advantage and film productions and photo shoots can take place all year round. Image shows commercial shoot for Tombras Agency /USA in June with fabulous weather.

A very different kind of editorial shoot we had for the magazine 032c - because it is a very different kind of magazine. It was called the magazine with a brutal elegance, and according to the New York Times, “the magazine fuses art and architecture, literature, urban studies in ways that can make one forget how depressing a visit to a newsstand has become.” INDUSTRIE Magazine credited 032c with setting "the most significant editorial agenda since The Face.” 032c was awarded the German media award Lead Magazine of the Year in 2008. Its fashion editorials have been awarded Lead Mood and Fashion Photography awards in 2014 and 2015. Even Barbados’ own goddess of music, Rihanna was on a cover of 032c
Our way of producing matched the PYRATE STYLE clothes collection that we were photographing in Barbados. It was a guerilla style shoot with a very small crew – from the German 032c team came Leah Miriam Hess as Stylist/ Art director and Marc Goehring as photographer for 032c, Troy Burgess was the local PA-all rounder - casting director, props organizer, set dresser, location finder, etc. With only the location idea in mind, we were finding local people and props on the spot. It was a fun shoot especially to see how everybody played along. The result is a lively refreshing editorial photo series – like snap shots of young Barbados’ weekend life.

For the POETRY Summer fashion shoots, we moved to the Bahamas, to find the most stunning location scenery on a deserted pure white beach, pristine clear water and stunning white rock formations. It wasn’t exactly around the corner from the hotel, but it was definitively worth the drive. UK Producer Claudie gave the thumps up - not only to the location, but also to the cooking of caterer Shauna, who spoiled the production team with delicious local food.
Next shoot day took place on the white hotel beach with beautiful pool, delicious cuisine and all amenities of a luxury boutique hotel. It is obvious that there is someone who knows what media crews need. Former New York photo studio owner Tom Marazza is the very relaxed and friendly owner of this gem ‘La Bougainvillea’, as well as of the spacious ‘team’ villa next door. In fact he has turned the spacious, beautiful terrain almost into an out door Studio location.

Wild grassland and rough Atlantic sea locations were chosen as backdrops for the Zara Spring/Summer advertising fashion campaign this year. The location feels were more like wild British coast lines and Scottish hills than tropical paradises.
Apart from the locations, the Caribbean Island was selected for the photo shoots and the video production this year because of its good weather in January, the favorable production conditions and the easy access for client, agency and teams from Spain, the UK and the US. Photographer was Mario Sorrenti, Director for video shoot: Gorden von Steiner.
The "Caribbean Production Company" provided full service: estimates, budgeting, location scouting, prop scouting, crew, catering, production equipment, villa-accommodation, transportation, permits, customs...
